User Guide

Getting Started

Using ezMenu is easy. Everything is accomplished while on the internet using the ezMenu main admin menu.

To get to your admin menu, enter

http://www.yoursitename.com/cgi-bin/ezmenu.pl

Be sure to replace 'yoursitename' with the URL of your web site, and replace 'cgi-bin' with the actual name of your cgi folder.

When you enter this address while on the internet, you will see the admin password box as follows:

Password screen

To start ezMenu enter your password and user name. When first running ezMenu, the default user name is test and the password is test. (Be sure to change these the first time you run the program to keep others from having access to your menu form settings.)

Be sure not to forget your password. If you do, the only way to recover is to contact us so we can reload the default password file.

Admin Menu

You can do everything in ezMenu from the main menu, which looks like:

Main Menu

Performing any task is as simple as clicking on it's button.

Note that the main menu always shows you the site that the menu is installed on, and the name you have selected for the menu page. If you wish to change these settings, do so in the Change Settings menu option.

Add Line Items the Menu

Adding a new item to the menu form is quite simple. To do so, click the 'Add Items' button on the main menu, and you will see the following screen.

Add Item

The information to be added is as follows:

 • MENU ITEM NAME - this can be any word or phrase you wish to use to describe the menu choice. It is best to keep it short, as this phrase will be placed on a click able button. (TIP: To make your buttons match in size, keep the menu item names about the same size in characters. You may have to use extra spaces between words to get them to line up).

 • MENU ITEM URL - In order for the menu to work, you have to enter a valid internet address to be associated with each menu item name. A valid site address will be something like 'http://www.DynomiteHost.com'. You can enter any valid address here.

 • MENU ITEM DESCRIPTION - this field allows you to add more description of the what the menu item will do. This will appear in smaller case next to the Menu Item Name.

 • MENU ITEM SEQUENCE - this field allows you to set the order that items will appear on your menu. It is a good idea to use a two digit number system starting with 10, and then as you add items, increase the number by 5. Doing this will make it easy to move items around by changing their sequence number.

When all the add item fields are complete, press the 'Add Item' button, and the item will be instantly added to the menu form.

Changing ezMenu Settings

The ezMenu system settings provide you the ability to quickly and easily change almost all the elements of your menu, and the way your menu system works with your site.

To change the settings, select the 'Change Settings' button from the main menu, and you will see the following screen:

Settings screen

Here are the different settings options and what you can do with them:

 • Base Directory - this is the physical server path for your site. The only time you would want to change this is if you change hosting services.

 • Base URL - this is your site address (ie http://www.ezmenu.com)

 • CGI Library - this is the address on your hosting service where your cgi programs are run from. The only time you will want to change this is if you change hosting services.

 • Menu URL - this is the file name on your site where you want the menu stored. The default name is 'ezmenu.html'. You can change it to anything, but it would be unwise to change it to a file name already in existence or in use by another program.

 • Menu Title - When you create a menu, it will have a large title at the top of the menu. You can choose what that title will be by entering text here.

To apply these changes, click the 'Change ezMenu Settings' button.

Since these changes affect the way your menu looks and works, it is always a good idea to test the changes by viewing and trying the menu to see the results.

Changing Admin Password

Changing the ezMenu password is a simple process. To change the password, select the 'Change Password' button from the main menu, and you will see the following screen:

change password

Enter the information as requested, and press the 'Change Password' button.

Notes on Passwords:

 1. Never name the user name and password the same.

 2. Don't forget your password - if you do, the only recourse is to reload the password file from the original install.

 3. Don't share your password - doing so will allow others to make changes to your menu - and you may not like the results.

View Menu

Any time you wish to view your menu click the 'View Menu' button, and you will see your menu form.

Almost always, you will want to press the 'refresh' or 'reload' button on your browser to force it to show you your menu with the latest changes.

change password

To return to admin menu after viewing the menu, use your browser's back button.

Adding the Menu Page Link to pages on your web site

To add a link to the menu form to any web page, add the following link:

Special Menu

In the above example, replace 'www.sitename.com' with the address of your web site, and change 'Special Menu' with the name of your choice.

If you wish to add the link to the ezmenu program to your menu, the link url would be something like '/cgi-bin/ezmenu.pl'. You would replace the /cgi-bin/ with the actual name of your cgi-folder.
